There was a large turn out for the official Calabazas BMX Park opening on Saturday. This has been a long awaited day for many. The park has was shut down 3 years ago due to liability concerns, but its problems go much further back. After over 15 years of push-and-pull between bikers, residents, and park officials, Calabazas Park is now officially sanctioned by the city of San Jose for bicycle stunt riding. Councilmember Pete Constant demonstrated the proper line for the beginner's area before opening the gates to a flood of bmx'ers and mountain bikers. August 2, 2007 Calabazas BMX Park Grand Opening-August 18, 2007
Councilmember Pete Constant invites you to the grand opening of the Calabazas BMX Park scheduled for Saturday, August 18, 2007 at 12:00 p.m. Be sure to attend for free t-shirts, Red Bull energy drinks and various other goodies! Refreshments will be provided as well as entertainment from Channel 104.9. While the kick-off is still weeks away, the park is now open to residents from sunrise to one hour after sunset. All riders are reminded to follow park rules including wearing a helmet. A complete list of rules will be posted at the entrance. For more information, call the District 1 Office at (408) 535-4901.

June 18, 2007 CALABAZAS BMX PARK OPEN!!!
The newly constructed Calabazas BMX Park opened to the public on Monday, June 18th. This new neighborhood park features a course designed for beginning to intermediate riders and a work area sponsored by Toyota. The 1.5 acre park is located on the Rainbow Drive side of Calabazas Park, just west of Blaney Avenue. The grand opening ceremony is planned for later in the summer. After reviewing several jumps and listening to rider feedback, the city has decided to make some changes to the park and the grand opening has been delayed by a few weeks. Stay tuned for updates.
